We carry out most of our shipments by Ro-Ro and rail. With our rail-integrated intermodal transport, we run operations between Türkiye and European countries. In addition to direct rail departures between Türkiye and Europe, we also carry cargo by Ro-Ro to Trieste or Sète and then onward by rail to European countries. With our Ro-Ro-integrated rail services, we can reach Germany from Türkiye in 7 to 8 days and France in 9 to 10 days, with fixed transit times. The most important advantages we offer are our wide range of equipment and our worldwide service network. This allows us to deliver cargo from many different sectors safely to every corner of the world.
Which intermodal lines do you operate on and which countries do you serve? Did you start operating on new intermodal lines in 2023? Will you use new intermodal lines in 2024?
Using our intermodal and sea freight infrastructure, we provide just-in-time transport to Europe, Africa, the Americas and Asia. In line with our vision of becoming a global logistics company, we will continue to deliver solutions all over the world. We are continuing our work on new lines.
Could you describe, with figures, the scale Talay Logistics has reached in rail transport and intermodal logistics? Which investments did you make in this field in 2023?
We completed last year with 80,000 intermodal operations. We also invested approximately 900 million TL in vehicles, equipment and green logistics. As a result, we have reached a significant scale before even completing our 10th year. Alongside our high volume of intermodal transport, we also recorded strong growth in sea and air freight. With two new warehouse investments in Istanbul, we expanded our warehousing services as well. We are therefore moving steadily towards our goal of becoming a service provider that offers solutions in every area of logistics, alongside intermodal, and can reach every point in the world. We have also accelerated our investments with TAL Trailer, the group company we established to manufacture trailers. With Talay Customs, another group company established in 2023, we began providing customs clearance services. At the same time, we have expanded our contract logistics services.
Intermodal transport is an environmentally friendly mode, often referred to as green logistics; compared with road transport, it causes less harm to the environment and helps companies save diesel. What is Talay Logistics doing in green, environmentally conscious logistics? Could you share examples and figures?
In 2023, we used intermodal transport instead of road transport in 80,000 of our operations. This helped protect approximately 3,700,000 trees, or 9,250 hectares of forest. We also prevented 80,000 tonnes of carbon emissions and saved 180 million kilowatt-hours of energy and 30 million litres of diesel. In addition, last year we added Türkiye’s first 100% electric tractor unit to our fleet. The vehicle has already covered 25,000 kilometres.
Could you share Talay Logistics’ short-, medium- and long-term goals and investment plans in rail logistics and intermodal transport?
Our target is to reach 6,000 containers by the end of 2025. In line with our goal of becoming a global logistics service provider, our container investments will continue in 2024. This will further strengthen our position in intermodal and rail transport.
